Shixiang Khoo Leads The Way

After ten hours of play on Day 3 of the APT Da Nang Main Event, we’ve finally reached the final table of nine, with Singapore’s Shixiang Khoo leading the way with just over 5 million chips. The chip leader at the end of Day 2, Daiki Shingae, is just behind him with a fraction over 4.9 million, and it’s a 1 million chip jump between 2nd and 3rd.

Day 3 Action

Our chip leader started the day in 6th place with just over a million chips and managed to continue to grow his stack throughout the day, winning multiple big pots. One of the biggest pots he played was when he took his pocket jacks against the ace-king of Dinh Tien Thanh, turning a set to eliminate his opponent in 16th place. That brought his chip stack to around 2 million, and from there he went on a tear to end the day at the top of the leaderboard.

Only a few thousand chips behind him is the chip leader from the start of Day 2 - Daiki Shingae. As we mentioned in our previous article, Daiki was the chip leader going into Day 3 of the APT Summer Series Hanoi event, but while he was eventually eliminated in 16th in that event, he managed to convert his lead into a final table appearance. This final table score is already the biggest of his career, but with such a large stack, he’ll undoubtedly be looking at the top of the payouts ladder.

Our third-place stack, Shinya Maeda, would have been one of the shorter stacks going into this final table if it weren’t for a huge pot that he played against Tran Duc Tuan right at the end of the day. Tuan opened to 110K and called the 3-bet of Maeda. The two saw a flop of AQ5, and after a c-bet of 250K, Tuan shoved all in. After burning a few time extensions, Maeda made the call with AJ and was relieved to see the total bluff of 98 in Tuan’s hand. The turn and river were no help to Tuan, catapulting Maeda into third place.

Outside of the top three, we still have three-time APT title winner Yu-Chung Chang in the hunt, currently sitting 6th in chips with 2.47 million, as well as Koangho Lee, who eliminated Kyle Bao and Joshua Mccully on his way to the final table.
