Natural8’s Team Hot pro Kitty Kuo was part of a 4-way chop in the $5,300 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship, where she picked up over $480,000 for her efforts. After outlasting a field of 1,070 players, the remaining four players took a break after Jim Collopy was eliminated in 5th place to discuss their options.

Players were guaranteed at least $295,595 for their efforts, with the first-place player taking home nearly $860,000. However, in an effort to minimize variance when playing for such huge sums of money, the four players agreed on a 4-way chop.

Farid Jattin was the overwhelming chip leader when the discussions got underway, his 83bb stack dwarfing the 48bb stack of Omer Rotman. Kitty was third in chips with 44bb, and Shannon Shor wasn’t far behind with 39bb. After a few minutes of negotiation, the group agreed to end the event there and then, all guaranteeing themselves at least $480,000, and crowning Farid Jattin the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Champion.

After such a long tournament, you can see the appeal of reducing the variance, as it can be hard to focus when you’re feeling so tired. In fact, after getting home from the tournament, Kitty nearly threw away her check for $480,000! After a frantic search, she eventually found it in her trash can; what an expensive mistake that would have been!
