Shaun Deeb Bags Sixth Bracelet In $1,500 Eight Game Mix

It’s turning into the World Series for repeat winners, as Shaun Deeb adds his name to the long list of players collecting another piece of hardware at the 2023 WSOP, winning the $1,500 Eight Game Mix. It’s Shaun’s sixth bracelet of his long and illustrious career and one that he had to work hard for. He faced off against mixed game heavyweights such as Danieal Strelitz, Craig Carrillo and Kyle Loman on his final table, before eventually defeating Aloisio Dourado heads-up to claim the WSOP bracelet and nearly $200,000.

Friendly Competition

Just a few days before, Shaun’s good friend Josh Arieh won his fifth bracelet, putting him level with Shaun with five each. After seeing his friend join him on five bracelets, Deeb said that he would get his sixth before Arieh, or he would retire from poker. Given the results of this tournament, we can clearly see how much Shaun was motivated to get that sixth bracelet and keep his poker career alive!

When speaking about his relationship with Arieh, Shaun said, “Battling with your friends is so much fun. The camaraderie. Me and Josh are family men the rest of the year. So we come out here, we have fun, we bullshit, we see each other, we’re talking trash all the time in our group chat. When he won five, it definitely lit a fire.” 

Shaun even had Josh cheering him on from the rail throughout the final table, clearly delighted to see his friend have a chance at winning his sixth bracelet. In fact, as Deeb got down to heads-up, Josh was playing the role of Mr Motivator, hyping up Shaun as “the end boss” of mixed games. Shaun even tweeted about it after the event, saying, “This is what true friendship looks like he’s so fired up it helps me to relax.”

Esteemed Company

Many poker players go their whole career without winning a WSOP bracelet, so to win six over a career is a truly legendary accomplishment. With this win, Shaun has joined a rarified group of players who have won six bracelets in less than ten years; Shaun’s first win coming back in 2015 with a victory in the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event.

Only six other players have won six bracelets in less than ten years in the history of the WSOP. Shaun Deeb now joins notable names, such as Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Layne Flack, Jeffrey Lisandro, Johnny Moss, and the legendary Doyle Brunson. Given Shaun’s talent for mixed games, there aren’t many people who would bet against him earning a seventh before that ten-year marker is up!
